Ms. Barton

My name is Maureen Barton and I will be teaching 4th grade Math/Science again this school year.  I began my teaching career in Ohio in 1990. I moved to Texas just two years later and taught in Cy-Fair ISD.  I taught elementary grades until my son was born in 2010.  While staying home with him, I began my 10-year career in volunteering. I enjoyed being on the PTA board, a Cub Scout Den Leader, and teaching classes at our church and assisting the junior high youth group. Wanting to get back into the workforce, I took a receptionist position in 2020 at WCJH. This energized me to pursue my true passion, my teaching career, once again. This will be my second year teaching at Shafer.

When I am not spending time with my family and friends, I enjoy gardening and being outside with nature.

I look forward to working with the wonderful Shafer community and inspiring students to be successful, lifelong learners.

Ms. Cook

My name is Rachel Cook and I will be teaching fourth grade ELAR at Shafer this year!  I have been in education for six years, and this will be my fifth year teaching fourth grade. I am a native Oregonian and attended Oregon State University! I have a Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising Management and Business Administration. After college, I worked in Human Resources for a marketing company  for a few years. I did not find my job very fulfilling, and my parents had always said I should have been a teacher. I decided to go back to school to become a teacher. I live in Cross Creek Ranch with my two dogs, Ruby (mini golden doodle) and Emmy (lab mix). In my free time I enjoy swimming, trying new restaurants, spending time with family and traveling. I love being involved in the community, and truly believe Shafer is the best school to be at!
