My name is Maureen Barton.  I am excited to begin my 3rd year at Shafer and my 23rd year of teaching.  I will be teaching 4th grade Math/Science.  I look forward to another wonderful year with the Shafer community! 

My name is Rachel Cook, and I am looking forward to my 6th year teaching fourth grade! I am a native Oregonian and attended Oregon State University! Building relationships with my students is what I take pride in the most.  I also love being involved in the community, and truly believe Shafer is the best school to be at!

My name is Shannon Hansel, I am so excited to start my 3rd year teaching 4th grade Math and Science at Shafer Elementary. This will be my 25th year of teaching. I am looking forward to building relationships with my students and serving the Shafer community.

My name is Afsoon Harrison and I will be teaching ELAR and Social Studies.  I have been at Shafer for 13 years as either a substitute teacher or a paraprofessional.  This will be my 2nd year as a certified teacher. I have my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  My husband David and I have been married for 24 wonderful years.  We have been blessed with two amazing boys.  Both of our boys attended Shafer Elementary.  We also have a small dog (Cockapoo) named Sunshine who thinks she runs the house. I will strive to create a nurturing and safe environment for learning as well as enjoyment.   I am looking forward to a great school year teaching your sweet child!

Hello! I’m Heidi Hartings and a proud native of New Orleans. This will be my 14th year in education. When I’m not in the classroom, I love spending time at home with my wonderful husband and our two amazing daughters. My goal for this year is to help your child discover the joy and wonder of reading.

My name is Jill Leach and I teach Reading, Writing, and Social Studies.  This is my 6th year teaching 4th grade ELA at Shafer, and my 20th year teaching public school. It’s been a pleasure to have been at Shafer since we opened. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Stephen F. Austin State University.  I hold certifications in Elementary, Reading, and English as a Second Language. I strive to help children become lifelong readers! I am excited to get to know each of you this year!

My name is Mindy Meszaros, and I am very excited to begin my 6th year of teaching 4th grade math and science.  This is my 9th year at Shafer Elementary and my 17th year of teaching.  In the classroom, I strive to foster a love for learning by creating a safe environment where students feel respected, nurtured, successful, and challenged.  I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with you and your sweet child!

Hi there! My name is Becca Payne and I have been teaching for 11 years. This will be my 2nd year teaching 4th grade math and science at Shafer!  My husband, Travis, and I live in Katy and have 2 sons ages 5 and 2.5.  I can’t wait to serve the Shafer community! In my classroom I strive to create an environment where all students feel safe, welcome, and loved.

My name is Colleen Slavens and this will be my 3rd year teaching. I’m excited to start my second year at Shafer, teaching self-contained 4th grade. I live in Katy with my 2 daughters (Claire 10 and Isabel 12) and my husband. I’m looking forward to another year serving the Shafer community.
