Hello! My name is Megan Adams and I teach 2nd grade English Language Arts. I am so excited to start my 2nd year of teaching! I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Gig'em! If I am not teaching, I am probably with my family, friends or traveling. I have an Irish Doodle named Remi that loves to cuddle and go on walks. 

Teaching is such a rewarding job, but one of the greatest rewards of teaching is seeing the progress of your students. From when students understand a difficult concept, to helping children learn a new skill, seeing a child's eyes light up after grasping a new piece of knowledge is priceless. I am looking forward to another awesome year here at Shafer!

My name is Megan Salazar and I teach 2nd grade math, science, and social studies. I will be entering my 6th year teaching, but my 2nd year at Shafer! I previously taught 4th grade for two years and then I taught 2nd grade for two years. I am a graduate of the University of Houston (go coogs!) where I earned my degree in Childhood Education. I love all things working out, food, Target and Chick-fil-a. I am a newly wed to my wonderful husband. We got married in January! We are both educators and love our jobs. I have a crazy dog, Hudson and a cat, Bella. This school year is going to be wonderful and I am so excited to continue my teaching career.

Hi everyone! My name is Laura Gariner and I teach 2nd grade Reading and Language Arts. I am so excited to start my 8th year at Shafer and my 26th year of teaching! I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University. I LOVE reading and writing, so I can’t wait to inspire your second graders to love it as well! I believe making connections and building relationships with students and their families is vital to a successful year. I will always be my students’ biggest advocate! 

I am married to my husband, Troy, and we live on 5 acres out in the country. We have lots of animals and enjoy doing projects around the house or property. I also have 2 stepdaughters and 5 grandchildren who live in Central Texas. When I’m at home, I love reading, sewing, crafting, and spending time with my animals. I am looking forward to a fantastic year with your second grader!

Hello! My name is Carol Ann Hoevelman and I am so excited to start my 6th year teaching! I have been at Shafer in Second Grade for the last 5 years, and love being here so much! I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice. After working in that field, I quickly realized teaching was my passion. Building relationships with students is my favorite thing about teaching, followed by math. I love teaching math, and fostering a love for all learning in my classroom. In my free time, I love spending time with my husband, Bryan, daughter, Mabry, and pets, Harper and Hugo. I’m thrilled to get this school year started, and get to know you and your child.

My name is Adriane Mcilwain and I am thrilled to be back for my second year at Shafer.   This will be my 7th year teaching and I love being a reading teacher! I love books and inspiring children to have the same love of reading as I do.  I have 2 daughters named Harper and Emily. My love of reading was definitely passed down to them as they are both professed “Book Nerds.” My girls and I love to rollerblade, watch movies, go hiking when possible and spend as much time with friends and family now that we are back home in Texas. I’m looking forward to a great year at Shafer Elementary and I cannot wait to meet my new group of 2nd Graders!

Hi! My name is Shelly Tanous, I teach 2nd grade Math and Science.  This will be my 27th year as a teacher. I have been at Shafer since it opened and love working here. I graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana with a Bachelor's and Master’s  degree in Early childhood Education! In my classroom, I strive to foster a love for math and science while creating an environment where students feel safe, loved, and successful. My husband Damon and I are almost empty nesters again! (They left and came back) I have a son, Andrew and a daughter, Claire. Andrew lives in St. Louis, Missouri and Claire is finishing up grad school this month. I have 2 Great Danes, Sadie Grace and Lily Mae who keep us very entertained. In my free time, I love to ride my Peloton and workout in my garage gym. I love the beach and all things Disney! I am looking forward to a fabulous school year with you and your second grader!

My name is Lindsey Townsend and I teach 2nd Grade Reading and Language Arts. I am so excited to begin my first year of teaching here at Shafer Elementary. I grew up here in Katy, Texas and am so excited to be back in my hometown teaching! I graduated from Texas State University in December of 2022 (go bobcats!) with my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with a specialty in ESL. A little about me is that I have three dogs: Piper, Storm, and Atlas. In my free time, I love to go for walks, play with my dogs, hike, bake, and read. My goal for this year is to get to know each of your students personally and foster a love for learning, especially reading! I want your students to know that they are valued, unique, and capable of doing anything they set their mind to.I am so excited to get to learn and grow with your student this year!

My name is Kendra Williford and I teach 2nd grade Math, Science, and Social Studies. I am excited to begin my fifth year teaching at Shafer and my 18th year in education. I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2005. I have taught both 2nd and 3rd grade. I am originally from Ft Worth and have now lived in Katy for 10 years. I have been married to my husband Chris for 12 years and we have 3 boys - Tyler, Brady, and Jack. 

I love spending time with my family  and being a boy mom!!  I enjoy watching my boys play sports, currently their focus is soccer. We like to be outdoors and take our camper out as often as we can. My wish for my students is that they would always feel safe, loved, and important when they’re in my classroom. I also hope each student will develop and grow their love for learning! I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with your 2nd grader!
