Howdy! My name is Elizabeth Becker. I was born and raised in Houston. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Business from Texas A&M University. I am excited to begin my 28th year of teaching in Katy ISD! My passion is teaching kids to be lifelong learners with character and integrity. I love to spread positivity and to inspire children to embrace their uniqueness! I am looking forward to a wonderful year! 

Hello!  My name is Michelle Beer. This will be my 14th year as a teacher. I earned my Master's in Education from Lamar University and my Bachelor's from Sacramento State University. I have two children of my own who will attend Shafer this year. I'm so excited about sharing this year with my 1st grade students and watching them learn and grow. Go Shafer Silver Knights!

Hello!  My name is Laura Callen, and I cannot wait to begin my 13th year of teaching at Shafer Elementary!  I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I love teaching and building a family atmosphere in my classroom.  First grade is a magical time of learning, growing, and creating lasting friendships and memories! I’m a native Texan and my husband Floyd and I live on 2 acres along with our fur baby Buster. I am looking forward to spending the school year with you and your sweet child and creating great memories!

Hello!  My name is Kim Hansen. This is my 22nd year as a Texas public-school teacher and my 13th year as a 1st Grade teacher at Shafer Elementary. 

I was born and raised in Houston and graduated from The University of Texas with a degree in Elementary Education. (Hook’em Horns!)  I’m the proud mom of three grown children.  I love the beach, spending time with family, and working in my yard.

In my classroom I strive to create not only a love for learning but a community that values kindness, empathy, joy, and respect.  I’m looking forward to a wonderful school year with you and your sweet child!

My name is Lauren Hart, and I cannot wait to begin my 8th year of teaching at Shafer Elementary and 6th year in 1st grade. I graduated from Texas A&M WHOOP!! with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Between teaching at Shafer and years prior, I have taught in first, second, third and fourth grade! Each one is uniquely special. My Shafer 1st grade classroom is filled with a love for learning while creating an environment where students feel safe, loved, and successful. We become a family in our classroom. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with you and your sweet child!

My name is Sophia Vargas, and I am excited to begin my 12th year at Shafer Elementary! I started in 2013 as a Special Education paraprofessional, taught Special Education for 4 years, and this in my first year in 1st grade! I believe that the most important part of teaching is connection and creating relationships, so my students know that they have someone that supports and believes in them. When I am not teaching, my own kids (Jaydon-21 and Brooklyn-15) keep me busy…I enjoy spending all of my extra time with them.
