Supply and Demand
In the state of Texas, there will be an increasing demand for new teachers due in part to a dramatic increase in enrollments and high attrition rates as an aging teacher workforce becomes eligible for retirement.
In Texas, there continues to be a shortage of secondary math and science teachers. In addition, the US Department of Education has identified the following teacher shortage areas for the 2023-2024 school year: Bilingual/English as a Second Language; Special Education; Career and Technical Education; Technology Applications and Computer Science; Secondary English Language Arts and Reading; Secondary Math; Secondary Science; and Secondary Social Studies.
