Social Studies

  • Beliefs:

Social Studies curriculum and instruction provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become life-long learners and informed and responsible citizens of the United States and the World.  This is accomplished through the teaching of broad concepts, social studies skills, and learning strategies.

    Guiding Principles:

How does Katy ISD develop informed, active, and responsive citizens?

    • Experience and apply problem-solving skills to meet the needs of an ever-changing global environment
    • Navigate the perspectives of children in other places and times
    • Growing student interactions with social, cultural, political, and economic systems
    • Apply and use knowledge of the past to make informed decisions for the present and the future
    • Grasp and promote the development of positive citizenship skills
    • Engage students in an integrated approach to the teaching of social studies
