Managing our online presence is a daily commitment to ensure safety, productivity and efficiency. Educating our students begins very early and Katy ISD works with families to provide our children with tools to do their work and participate online in a safe manner. How to Keep Your Children Safe Online

The online world can be full of distractions, temptations, and danger for unknowing children. This article contains information and practical resources to help parents prepare their children for navigating the internet safely.

Digital Citizenship 24/7

​During the past couple of years, students and adults as well, have been challenged with new experiences with digital tools that were needed for school, work, and even trying to prevent socia​l isolation. We all depended heavily on  technology to stay connected with friends and family and continue our learning online. These opportunities allowed students to become more skilled in evaluating news, media and online resources, and to successfully navigate social media and online communities. ​

Students still find themselves immersed in the digital environment and need constant reminders at school and at home about what they can do to be safe and productive online.

• ​Be kind and respectful online - What is said online is heard and felt by other human beings. Be kind and respectful even if you disagree.
• Avoid digital drama - The end of the school year doesn't mean the end of online drama. Following the first rule above will help with this, but be sure to involve adults when necessary to help resolve issues before they escalate.
• Be mindful of what you share - Never share personal information such as your address, school, full name, etc. Instagram, Tik​ Tok or any social media platform are easy resources for people to learn more about you or capture information to use for their own benefit. Think before you post anything.
• Think critically about what you see and read - Students should continue to view information through a very critical lens and not believe everything they see and hear. Always look for bias, propaganda, marketing and trickery. Never follow or forward anything that you can't verify is true.
