College Board Accommodations Requests Fall 2023

If a student has a 504, IEP, or MTSS accommodation plan, they are not entitled to receive these accommodations on College Board exams. Parents and students must email the Cinco Ranch High School Campus Testing Coordinator, submit the required documents and information, and then the Campus Testing Coordinator will apply for approval through the College Board for that student. The College Board will then issue a decision letter based on the accommodations requested and the documents provided to either approve or deny the request. Any approved accommodations will then be provided to all applicable PSAT, SAT, and AP exams for the remainder of a student’s high school tenure.

The hard deadline to submit all required documents to make accommodation requests through the College Board for the entire Fall 2023 semester is Wednesday, August 16, 2023. It is recommended that you contact the Campus Testing Coordinator for information no later than Thursday, August 10th, to ensure proper documents are submitted by the deadline of August 16th.

To apply for accommodations through the College Board for all College Board tests this Fall of 2023, email Brittany Holler, Campus Testing Coordinator, at BrittanyDHoller@KatyISD.org. She will respond with the actions you need to take and the documents you need to provide for her to submit your application to the College Board. All necessary documents and information must be returned by August 16th or your request will not be submitted for the Fall semester. Your student will not receive their accommodations on any of the following tests: SAT on October 7, November 4, or December 2 nor the School-Day PSAT/NMSQT for 10th and 11th graders on October 11 and 12.

    ACT Accommodations Requests

    PSAT/NMSQT

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS OF SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS

Beginning in the fall of 2023, the PSAT/NMSQT will be making a full transition from a paper/pencil exam to a digital exam. All sophomores and juniors will take the Digital PSAT/NMSQT® at their home campus and are automatically registered for this test.

    Sophomores: Wednesday, October 11

    Juniors: Thursday, October 12

Taking the PSAT/NMSQT® can encourage a student to start thinking seriously about life after high school, about college and career goals, and about the education needed to reach those goals. The PSAT/NMSQT® has been designed to mirror the SAT®.

Students can prepare for this exam by reviewing the information in the PSAT/NMSQT® Student Guide . There is also additional practice available online.

Katy ISD provides all students with academic opportunities needed to prepare them for college and beyond. Participation in the PSAT/NMSQT® is an important step in preparing for college.

Taking the PSAT/NMSQT® provides the following advantages to students:

    • It measures the reading, math, and writing skills needed for college and career planning. After the test, students will retrieve their online score report that will highlight opportunities to strengthen academic skills. Students can use the score report to show strengths and weaknesses pertaining to college readiness.
    • Prepares students for taking the SAT.
    • College Board’s BigFuture® app helps students plan for college, pay for college, and explore careers.
    • Juniors who score well may qualify for National Merit Recognition and Scholarships.
    • It provides valuable information to parents and students on student potential for advanced academics in high school.

The College Board has partnered with Khan Academy® to provide free SAT online practice. The customized test preparation will offer skill-based videos and practice SAT questions to support students who have taken the PSAT/NMSQT®. When students get their score report, they can link their College Board and Khan Academy accounts to get free personalized learning plans based on test performance.

What Should Students Bring on Test Day?

    • A pen or pencil for scratch work (No. 2 pencil not required)
    • Current and valid school/government issued ID

    • Desmos Calculator is embedded in the Bluebook app; however, a student can also choose to bring a College Board approved calculator. If a student needs a hand-held calculator, please contact the Campus Testing Coordinator.

Score Reports will be available electronically to students in their College Board account on November 6, 2023.
