The Peter McElwain Elementary School library strives to create an environment that promotes a love of reading, learning and independent thinking. Students and staff have access to a variety of books and other resources that support and enhance classroom learning. While students and staff can come to the library throughout the day to check out materials, there is also a fixed schedule that teachers follow which allows students to have grade-level specific lessons.

We want our students to enjoy the materials we have to offer here in the library. However, sometimes accidents happen and books are lost or damaged. The library provides an extra thick, extra large library book bag for each student's backpack. Should this occur, we ask the student to replace the materials by paying the price paid for the book.
"Parents are responsible for any materials checked out by their children. If a book, resource or device is damaged, a replacement fee is required so the material can be replaced by the library media specialist. The damaged item will then be disposed of as per Katy ISD's property disposal procedures." (from the 2022-2023 Student Handbook)Fees for damaged or lost library books may be paid using the Pay N'Go tool.
