ABOUT SLJH NJHS

  • Seven Lakes Junior High's National Junior Honor Society boasts over 300 members doing great things across our community!  From service to our school and district to service all across the Katy and Houston areas, we have given over 4500 hours of service to our community.

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle-level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.

How do I become a member of NJHS?

NJHS membership is offered to qualified 8th-grade students after the 3rd six weeks of their eighth-grade year, or to qualified 7th-grade students after 5th six weeks report cards are printed.  Students will be invited via a personal letter delivered during the school day.

Membership is based on grade point average (GPA) and conduct records.  Names are gathered from a KatyISD-generated report of students' GPA and conduct history.  If you would like to determine if your child will be eligible, the formula for grade points given per class can be found in the Katy ISD Course Catalog  (GPA-exempt courses are not factored in determining GPA.)

Students with discipline infractions throughout the year are subject to removal from the list.

Details regarding induction practice, induction, the first meeting for members, and officer elections, will be included in invitation letters.

    What is required of members?

Members are required to complete a minimum of 10 service hours each year, with at least 1 of those hours in service through the school.  Students will be recognized for the amount of time given in service at the end of the year (as long as the minimum time is met).

Students who complete 50+ hours may be eligible for additional awards.

What if I have further questions?
