Wolman Elementary opened in August 2012. The school was named after Arlan “Ray” Wolman and his wife Jamie. Mr. Wolman began his career in Katy ISD as the only science teacher at the only high school in Katy at that time, Katy High School. He then became the head of the Welch Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) where he has had an impact on thousands of student lives each year. The OLC created an outdoor classroom for students to learn in a varied environment. He also developed a six week summer program for year-round learning. He has worked with Boy Scouts to obtain their Eagle Scout Award through projects at the OLC and was involved through 30 years in the coordination of the Katy ISD Folk Life Festival.

Mrs. Wolman began her career in Katy ISD as a teacher to special needs children and then served as a counselor at the junior high and high school levels before retiring. She continues to be a part of education and has served on the Katy Higher Education Task Force and the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. Mrs. Wolman also spends time each week as a Katy ISD KEYS mentor, where she volunteers her time as a role model with a student on the brink of success.
