Dozens of Community Members Safely Dispose of Medication in Drug Take Back Event
KATY, TX [October 29, 2024] – Katy ISD’s Police Department collected more than 20 boxes of medication at this weekend’s Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, continuing its mission to keep our community safe.
On Saturday, October 26, approximately 100 community members dropped off unused, expired, and unwanted prescription medication at the Katy ISD Law Enforcement Center, safely disposing of potentially dangerous substances.
“This event is always well-supported and this year was no different,” said Henry Gaw, Chief of Police in Katy ISD. “We appreciate the many community members who dropped off medication at this weekend’s event for their assistance to keep our community safe.”
The Katy ISD Police Department holds biannual Drug Take Back Day events, in partnership with the DEA, and will hold its spring event in April. Since starting the initiative, the DEA has safely collected more than 17 million pounds of unused prescription medication.
