Which students should consider Katy Online Academy (KOLA)?
KOLA targets failing students and students behind in earning graduation credit in grades 9-12 seeking an alternative method of instructional delivery. The KOLA program focuses on credit recovery for the core courses of math, social studies, science and English.  Online software is the primary vehicle for instruction available in the KOLA Lab computerized setting. Students work independently at their own pace to recover credit while instructors facilitate instruction, provide student support and monitor progress.

    What is a KOLA course?
KOLA offers credit recovery courses during the school day, after school hours, and during summer school.  KOLA provides the opportunity to complete a course at their own pace within a defined time period to earn course credit toward graduation.  Most students are enrolled in KOLA during the school day. Courses are aligned with the Katy ISD curriculum to include the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and additional required Katy ISD objectives. A web-based program is used to deliver curriculum in a blended learning environment utilizing online learning platforms, individualized instruction, and textbooks. KOLA lab teacher are available throughout the course to facilitate learning and evaluate student performance.  The Student KOLA Contract must be signed by the student and parent/guardian prior to beginning the KOLA course. These guidelines apply to KOLA labs at the seven comprehensive high schools and OAC.

What grades will the student earn?
Students who successfully complete their KOLA credit recovery course earn a 70.  Grades are posted on the student's transcript. UIL participation is subject to grades received in KOLA during the regular school day. All UIL rules and guidelines apply.

How does a student enter KOLA?
A completed Student KOLA Application, Parent and Student Contract and KOLA Enrollment Form signed by the student's counselor is required before a student can be enrolled in a KOLA course. This is essential to ensure the student is in the correct course and requirements for graduation are being met. Students are required to follow the KISD Responsible Use Guidelines for Technology in all KOLA programs. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in disciplinary actions, expulsion from the KOLA class, or in extreme cases loss of Internet and/or computer access within the district.
